This was written after my last visit to one of my favorite beaches. I know I wont be going back there any time soon, and I just had to immortalize my feelings.
Oh, and by the way, as usual, after years of silence, I'm back here. FPFY always draws me back.
Here are some
things
I want to
remember:
The song the
waves sing
As they wash the
seashore
Leaving starfish
embedded in sand:
Just like
Jupiter and the satellites in the sky
That glint
despite the bright moonlight.
They cannot be
seen unless you choose to look away
Then, suddenly,
out of the corner of your eye, you see one
And maybe
another
And everything
falls perfectly into place
Out of focus
I want to
remember
The cool sea
breeze that stole my serenity
As it slid its
hands under my dress
Lifting it effortlessly
to caress my thighs
Until warm hands
from behind rescue me
And hold me till
I feel safe again
I want to
remember
An evening long
ago
Six quarters of
sticky sweet lime
A stone bench
and a sunset at the end of the world
A pocket knife
that cut the day out from its margins
Leaving it
standing alone in the twilight of memory
I want to
remember
The heat on my
bare back
The surface of
the ocean shimmering,
Blinding in its
beauty
As I stand tall
on the very edge of the boat
Lifting my arms
up to the sky as I take a leap of faith
A mouthful of
salt water
Diamonds in my
hair and on my eyelashes
And everything
is perfect
And then
afterwards,
We sit side by
side on the sun warmed sand
Bare feet
digging into the beach
Trying to grow
into it
While our bodies
tan, I feel like a stranger to myself
My eyes
brighter, my gait more languid
I am drunk on
freedom and happiness
Until the sun
sets
And all the
Mojito glasses are suddenly empty
We look into
each others eyes
One final time –
and it is the end
